What a Polestar needs from its battery
An electric Polestar still has a small low-voltage battery that wakes the car up, unlocks the doors and closes the contactors for the main pack. When it fails, the car will not switch on even with a full traction battery.
Battery type and size
Most EVs use a compact 12V AGM or flooded auxiliary battery, smaller than the one in a petrol car because it never cranks an engine. Some newer models use a 12V lithium unit that is specific to the car. The technician confirms the type from the VIN before dispatch.
Worth knowing before fitting
An EV with a flat 12V battery can usually be woken with a booster on the 12V terminals, but it must never be used to jump start another car. The high-voltage pack is left alone during a 12V replacement.
