Choosing a battery for the MG 3 Xross
The 3 Xross ran from 2011 to 2017. Later cars in that range often have start-stop and need maintenance-free flooded, while earlier ones use a standard battery, so the model year decides what we bring.
Compact cars use smaller batteries with less reserve, so short trips with the AC running drain them faster. The good news is that replacement is quick and the batteries are easy to stock.
What a MG needs from its battery
Most MG petrol models take a DIN battery in H5 or H6, flooded on the basic versions and EFB where stop/start is fitted. The larger turbo SUVs can take H7. Sizes shift between model years, so the label is the reference.
On stop/start MGs, a plain flooded battery tends to disable the stop/start function and wear out early. The electric models, such as the ZS EV and MG4, still carry a 12V auxiliary battery that fails like any other.
